Burger - Double Cheeseburger With French-Fried Onions

It s generally agreed throughout the world that a sandwich is two pieces of bread with something in-between. As if we were not confused enough, we have tried to list sandwiches by type: sandwich, burgers, grilled cheese, submarine, sausage (includes hot dogs), stuffed, open-face.

fwx-stacked-double-cheeseburger.jpg
2 lbs ground chuck
4 sesame seed hamburger buns
1 ball mozzarella
1 tablespoon butter
Salt & pepper
1 can French-fried onions
4 thin slices tomato
Lettuce
Mayonnaise

Shape your beef into ¼ lb patties (you should have 8 total) that are just wider than the base of your bun. Place a thumbprint in the center of each patty to help stop the beef from shrinking. Season both sides of the patties with salt and pepper. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large pan or skillet over medium heat. Cook your burgers for 3-4 minutes on each side (you may have to work in batches). Add the mozzarella to each patty for a few seconds to partially melt. Spread mayonnaise lightly on all inside surfaces of buns. Place a leaf of lettuce on the bottom bun. Add the first patty with mozzarella. Add a thin slice of tomato between the two patties. Then add the other patty with mozzarella. Pile French-fried onions on top of the second patty and close. Its going to be thick but you'll love it.
