Beans (Navy) - Navy Beans With Sausage

3 14 ounce cans navy beans do not drain
2 cups brown sugar
1 lb sausage
1/2 yellow onion finely diced, optional

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the sausage. Use a wooden spoon to break the sausage up into small crumbles. Cook about 7-11 minutes until browned an all sides. Add beans and brown sugar to the skillet. Stir together until well combined. Reduce heat to medium and simmer 20-25 minutes. If it starts to boil, reduce heat a little more. Remove from heat and serve.
