For sauce:
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 pears, thinly sliced
For cake:
2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup whole milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and prepare a round cake pan. Add the ingredients for sauce (butter, sugar salt, ginger, and vanilla) in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly to combine. Bring to boil, and then remove from heat. Pour sauce in prepared cake pan, and arrange pear slices in a circle. Set aside. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, cream butter and brown sugar, adding in one egg at a time. Mix in vanilla, ginger, and milk until well combined. Slowly add flour mixture and beat until smooth. Pour batter carefully over the pears, and bake for 20-25 minutes. Let cool, and flip cake onto a separate plate.
