Sloppy Joe - Dr. Pepper Pork Sausage Sloppy Joes

It s generally agreed throughout the world that a sandwich is two pieces of bread with something in-between. As if we were not confused enough, we have tried to list sandwiches by type: sandwich, burgers, grilled cheese, submarine, sausage (includes hot dogs), stuffed, open-face.

Post by Chowhound »

drpepperporksloppyjoes-10-min.jpg
1 lb pork sausage meat
1 cup yellow onion, diced
2 cups Dr Pepper
1/2 cup BBQ sauce
4 hamburger buns
1 cup crispy fried onions

Preheat oven to 400F for toasting the buns. Cook sausage meat in a large saute pan over medium-high heat. Add diced onions to the pan with the sausage as it's cooking. Crumble the sausage meat well. Once the sausage meat is fully cooked drain the grease from the pan. Add the Dr Pepper to the pan and leave it to simmer over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Once the Dr Pepper has greatly reduced and thickened (about 10 minutes) add the BBQ sauce to the pan. Stir well and reduce heat to low. Lay the hamburger buns in a single layer on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven. 4-6 minutes. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the toasted buns and sprinkle the crispy fried onions on top. Serve and enjoy!
