Cabbage - Escalloped

1 up white sauce (Medium thick)
1/2 cup grated American or Cheddar cheese
Bread Crumbs, buttered
Salt and pepper to taste
Shred cabbage and remove the hard parts. Cook in boiling salted water until tender, about 7 to 10 minutes. Add grated cheese to white sauce just before removing from the fire and pour over cabbage in buttered dish. Cover with buttered bread crumbs and brown in oven.
